Dominican Republic Service Trip

In November 2024 and 2025, I traveled to the Dominican Republic as a member of the Watkinson service team. Over Thanksgiving week, we work with the Good Samaritan Hospital to help run pop-up medical clinics and construction projects on the bateys, which are sugarcane plantations where undocumented Haitians live and work. Haitians on the bateys face extreme poverty, malnourishment, and disease. They are often unable to seek medical help in Dominican cities because of their lack of citizenship and fear of deportation.​​​
